Amritsar Agreement

Amritsar`s contract of 1809 was an agreement between the British East India Company and Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the Sikh leader who founded the Sikh empire. Among the results, Singh obtained a pass to continue consolidating his territorial gains north of the Sutlej River, at the expense of other Sikh leaders and their colleagues among the other dominant communities. It was a pact between Charles T. Metcalfe and Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Check out our press release that provides the context for these contracts. This ten-item contract was signed today by Frederick Currie, Esq. and Brever Major Henry Montgomery Lawrence, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Sir Henry Hardinge, Governor General, British Government and Maharajah Gulab Singh himself, and the treaty in question was ratified today by the seal of Rt. Hon. Sir Henry Hardinge, Governor General.

Made in Amritsar on the sixteenth march, the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-six, which corresponds to the seventeenth day of Rube-ul-Awal (1262 Hijri). Article 5 of Maharajah Gulab Singh refers to the arbitration of the British government any dispute or issue that may arise between him and the government of Lahore or another neighbouring state, and will comply with the decision of the British government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s government removed the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 and also divided the state into two EU territories. Apart from that, the state has remained secret since August 4 (the day before the Union`s Interior Minister, Amit Shah, resolution of the lifting of the special status and jammu and cashmere reorganization Bill, 2019, in the Rajya Sabha.) The Treaty of Lahore, signed on 9 March 1946, marked the end of the First Anglo-Sikh War, which took place between the Sikh Empire and the East India Company between 1845 and 1846. Article 3 Given the transfer to him and his heirs by the provisions of the previous article Maharajah Gulab Singh will be paid to the British government the sum of seventy-five lakhs of rupees (Nanukshahee), fifty lakhs on October 1 of the current year, A.D., 1846. The former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir was established on 16 March 1946, when Amritsar`s contract between the British East India Company and Raja Gulab Singh of Jammu was signed after the first Anglo-Sikh War. Amritsar`s contract was signed under the Treaty of Lahore.
